Connecticut lawmakers debated a two-year budget that aimed to lower special education costs, temper rising electric rates and boost funding for community colleges and nonprofits after many hours of public testimony.
Sen. Cathy Osten said the proposal calls for using reserve funds from state universities to support local job-training programs—steps meant to address real community needs.

On April 26, Conard Girls Lacrosse defeated Branford 19-4 in West Hartford — Caroline Cersosimo scored seven goals, Nicole Gorman added three in the first quarter, and Olivia Hole became the team’s all-time leading scorer.
The team will host Northwest Catholic on Tuesday before playing South Windsor on Friday.
