  • Local health experts report that tick season has begun with an unusually high number of bites across Connecticut as labs find that 40% of submitted ticks test positive for Lyme disease bacteria.   • On Saturday, hundreds raced up 688 steps of Hartford 21 downtown as part of the Fight for Air climb that raised funds and awareness for lung disease, with firefighters joining climbers to honor those with COPD, lung cancer, and asthma (affecting nearly 480,000 people in Connecticut).  WTNH News 8

  • Former UConn quarterback Joe Fagnano signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent after the NFL Draft ended; he closed his final season with the Huskies with strong numbers (69% completion, nearly 3,500 yards, 31 touchdowns, and one interception).  WFSB-TV
  • Former UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell was drafted by the Buffalo Bills with the 125th pick. He achieved record-breaking numbers with 101 catches, 1,278 yards, and 13 touchdowns at UConn — a performance that helped the Huskies earn back-to-back nine-win seasons.  WFSB-TV
  • Conard softball beat Tolland 13-1 at home in West Hartford on Wednesday, April 22 with dominant pitching from Elise Talbott. The win boosted their record to 5-3 as the team continued their strong season.  We-Ha
  • Southington Blue Knights defeated Berlin Red Coats 5-2 at Dunkin Park on Apr. 24 as the venue celebrated its 10th anniversary. The win improved their season record to 7-1.  WFSB-TV
  • In a high school boys lacrosse game this week, the E.O. Smith Panthers beat the Bristol Lancers 13-10 to snap a three-game losing streak; Tyghe Collins' spin move led the charge and helped secure the close win (key plays turned the tide).  WFSB-TV
  • Seventh-ranked Xavier defeated eighth-ranked Daniel Hand 3-0 in a top 10 matchup earlier this week in Middletown. Cristian Lopez scored the first run in the fourth inning while Cale Loria added a run in the fifth to secure the win.  WFSB-TV
