ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The department announced Thursday it received $750,000 in grants from two sources to boost local wood innovation. Grant funds will create a Wood Utilization Team and upgrade a mobile app to support sustainable forest management across eight counties.  FOX61

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut lawmakers are considering House Bill No. 5550 to block public access to course syllabi at public colleges (the change would take effect Oct. 1) after a committee cleared the bill following testimony from UConn professors on FOIA misuse.   • Gov. Ned Lamont announced that Connecticut will expand its Head Start on Housing program by reallocating $750,000 for statewide case management and adding 250 rental vouchers for families enrolled in Head Start (for children ages 3 to 5) at a press conference in Manchester on Thursday, April 2.  CT Mirror

  • The UConn women face South Carolina today at 7 p.m. in Phoenix — carrying a 54-game winning streak on their 25th Final Four appearance.  FOX61
  • UConn star Sarah Strong was named The Associated Press women’s basketball Player of the Year on Thursday after leading the Huskies to a 38-0 season and setting up their Final Four run; coach Geno Auriemma praised her calm leadership as key to the team.  NBC Connecticut
  • Connecticut Sun announced its Sunset Season as its final season in Connecticut before moving to Houston. The team will honor its legacy with special events, exclusive merchandise, and a community court revitalization project.  NBC Connecticut
  • UConn fans are expected at Bradley International Airport today as Southwest Airlines adds two flights (10:20 a.m. and 3:50 p.m.) to transport fans to the men's Final Four game in Indianapolis, while other travel options remain for those heading to the women's game in Phoenix tonight.  WFSB-TV
  • New menu items are coming this Hartford Yard Goats season that offer creative hot dog toppings and sweet treats for fans. The new offerings add fresh twists to classic concessions at the ballpark.  FOX61
