🎓 Education
At a spring conference in Bristol—Gov. Ned Lamont addressed school superintendents on education funding, student mental health and technology use in classrooms.
He said that limiting smartphone distractions is key to helping students focus and noted that data showing rising anxiety from digital overuse is prompting new policy reviews.
At a public hearing on March 19th in Hartford, students testified that underfunded schools—with canceled field trips and unsanitary bathrooms—hindered their learning.
They backed HB 1511, a bill that would boost funding for special education and low-income programs to address the inequities they face.
🏛️ Government
Hartford Mayor Arulampalam announced the creation of a COLA Task Force to explore cost of living adjustments for city pensioners and improve the pension fund long term stability.
The task force will begin work immediately and review current policies before offering recommendations later this year while retirees will gather at City Hall on March 24 at 3:30 p.m.
