  • The Village for Families & Children is accepting online donations through Feb. 14 to purchase new winter coats for 500 children in Greater Hartford. A coat distribution event is planned for Feb. 21 invitation only with future public drives anticipated.  NBC Connecticut
  • On Tuesday morning, following National Pizza Day, E&D Pizza donated 20 pizzas to House of Bread on Chestnut Street in Hartford as part of the Pizza Across America initiative to help combat food insecurity.  FOX61

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tuesday night, West Hartford firefighters rescued two dogs and one person from a disabled elevator at 34 Schoolhouse Street after an entangled leash derailed the door + crews climbed in from the floor above using a ladder to guide a safe escape with no injuries.  We-Ha

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Connecticut Airport Authority announced the Escape Lounge at Bradley has reopened after summer renovations. The upgraded lounge is larger & offers a wider food menu with extended hours from 4:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the east concourse, gates 1-12.  NBC Connecticut

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Lamont has extended the severe cold weather protocol, which provides warming shelters and transport for those in need, through at least noon on Sunday (Feb. 15). The order has been in effect since Jan. 23 as forecasts predict single-digit wind chills.  WFSB-TV
  • CTDOT announced winners of its fourth annual Snowplow Naming Contest, selecting 16 names from four maintenance districts including Plowabunga, Snow Diggity, and The Saltfather. The winning names will be printed on CTDOT snowplows this winter.  NBC Connecticut
  • The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is seeking seasonal hires for work in outdoor recreation, conservation and education from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. It will host a job fair on Sunday, March 15 (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at Black Rock State Park in Watertown.  WFSB-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Connecticut advocacy groups warned that the new Medicaid prior authorization rule—active since Jan. 1 for new prescriptions and affecting existing ones starting April 1—could jeopardize access to medications for thousands of vulnerable patients. State officials say the policy aligns with national best practices.  CT Mirror

  • State labor officials halted work by seven companies at Concierge Apartments for workers' compensation issues, leaving residents uncertain about their return. Building 400 tenants returned while residents in Building 500 and three other buildings must wait; management plans to allow residents in additional buildings by late next week.  WFSB-TV
