CULTURE NEWS

  • The Webster in Hartford will host a Heated Rivalry-themed night on Saturday, Feb. 7 that features show edits on giant screens, themed drinks (general admission starts at $26.15 and VIP at $173.15) and special giveaways for fans 18 and older.  Connecticut Post
  • Hundreds gathered in Frog Hollow on Jan. 6 for the Día de los Reyes parade, a celebration marking the end of Christmastime with traditions honoring the Three Kings. ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to the state Department of Labor, Connecticut added an estimated 1,400 jobs during October and November 2025 despite losing 6,800 jobs in September. Job growth lagged behind national trends with education and health services showing the biggest gains.  Connecticut Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Connecticut’s autism waiver program left new slots empty because the Department of Social Services lacks enough staff and case managers amid low Medicaid rates affecting provider participation. More than 2,400 people remain waiting (DSS will hire additional case managers when the provider network stabilizes).  Connecticut Public

  • UConn will host St. John's today at 7:30 p.m. at PeoplesBank Arena as the Huskies aim for their 32nd win in a Big East game.  Connecticut Post
  • The Hall High School boys basketball team defeated South Windsor 67-37 on Monday, Jan. 5 in West Hartford; the undermanned Titans rallied from an early deficit to improve their record (5-1) and will prepare for a three-game road stretch, according to coach Bryan Moretti.  We-Ha
  • Maxim Naumov, the local Olympic figure skater, is working toward his U.S. team spot while developing a mental health program for athletes at the International Skating Center in Simsbury. His effort aims to remind young skaters to keep the passion he discovered in his childhood.  NBC Connecticut
  • On Tuesday the Walter Camp Foundation honored UConn running back Cam Edwards from Norwalk and NC State linebacker Kenny Soares Jr. from Trumbull as Connecticut Players of the Year for the 2025 season. Edwards posted 1,240 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns while Soares recorded 80 tackles (each earning standout recognition).  Connecticut Post
  • UConn men's basketball team is set to face Providence today at 7 p.m. at Amica Mutual Pavilion, and the game will air on Peacock and UConn Sports Network, highlighting UConn's 14-1 record and Providence's comeback potential.  Connecticut Post
