WesGrooves: Bachata

About this event

Bachata dance is a passionate, rhythmic, fluid style that o riginated in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s and has since swept the globe. Learn the eight-count basic step and try dancing solo or with a partner. Co-sponsored by Wesleyan's Latin and Ballroom Club.WesGrooves (https://www.wesleyan.edu/cfa/featured-programs/wesgrooves.html) events are community dance parties, free and open to the public, and movers of all skill levels are invited. The series introduces attendees to different styles of social dance from across the globe, which are often grounded in cultural tradition and meaning, and prioritize fun, participation, and connection over performance. Beginning with a short dance lesson to learn basic steps from a visiting instructor, and often accompanied by live music, these parties offer a joyous atmosphere where audiences can come and go as they please, while everyone is encouraged to take to the dance floor together. Bring your energy and your friends, get in the groove, and be part of the community. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. We encourage you to RSVP to help us with our planning and to get a reminder the day before this event. While RSVPs are not required for entry, they are a big help! While you're on campus, we encourage you to visit the Center for the Arts (https://www.wesleyan.edu/cfa/) to explore current art exhibitions and other programming.m Club.
