About The Artist
Doug Fortin is an artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a lifelong dedication to exploring the intersection of art, nature, and community. Born and raised in the picturesque landscapes of Connecticut, Fortin’s artistic talents blossomed under the guidance of his mother, painting alongside her from a young age.
Fortin’s pursuit of artistic excellence led him to the University of Hartford Art School, where he earned a B.F.A in Illustration. It was during his time in art school that he embarked on a parallel path, undertaking a tattoo apprenticeship that would ultimately set the course for his dual career as both a painter and a tattoo artist.
Following graduation, Fortin ventured westward to San Francisco, immersing himself in the city’s vibrant art scene while honing his craft as both a fine artist and tattooist. For a decade, he thrived amidst the cultural diversity and creative energy of the Bay Area, his work drawing inspiration from the eclectic tapestry of urban life.
However, the call of his New England roots eventually beckoned Fortin back home to Connecticut. Settling in Collinsville, he opened his first private studio, where he found solace and inspiration amidst the tranquil beauty of his surroundings. It was here that Fortin’s passion for hiking was reignited, leading to a profound fusion of art and nature.
Immersing himself in the practice of plein air painting, Fortin discovered a newfound obsession with capturing the fleeting beauty of the natural world on canvas. His focus shifted primarily to watercolor landscape painting, as he sought to evoke the sublime essence of the outdoors through his art.
